What happens when you combine dancing with fun music, new motor patterns, community, laughter, new sequences, social connection, and a final mindful stretch?

I’ll tell you:

BRAIN BENEFITS:

  • Drives highest levels of positive neuroplasticy.

  • Rewrites + builds new neural pathways.

  • Improves grey matter density + parahippocampal structures.

  • Increase cerebral blood flow + release lactate (brain fuel).

  • Release brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein that’s like fertilizer for growing new neurons + strengthening synaptic connections.

BONE DENSITY:

  • Even low impact dancing (with constant weight-bearing) signals the bone-forming cells to build stronger bones.

  • Sudden changes of direction send localized mechanical pressure through your bones, which encourages increased bone mass.

  • Like a "master switch," the physical pressure of your legs against the ground triggers osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) to lay down new mineral content.

  • When you stabilize during a dance routine, your muscles contract and tug the attached bones, which also stimulates bone metabolism.

BLISS:

  • The neurochemical uplift from dancing is, “The Happiness Cocktail.”

  • Moving to music activates your brain's reward centers + releases feel-good chemicals like endorphins, dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin.

  • The feel-good chemicals reduce your perception of pain, elevate your mood, and create a natural sense of euphoria.

  • Lowers cortisol + and calms anxious thoughts.

  • When you synchronize rhythm and movement simultaneously, then you double the pleasure, activating your sensory, motor, & emotional circuits.

About Zoe

I love that saying, “Do what you love, and everything else follows” Since I was a kid, dance has probably been my biggest passion. To this day, I am still choreograhing, teaching, performing, and studying dance. I cannot sing a note, but I can dance my brains out. I suspect that I fell in love with yoga mostly because of how it echos the shapes, emotions, and energy of dance.

When I first began choreographing and teaching dance in high school, I was squeezing it into every recess, before school, after school, and weekends. I had no idea that I would later be employed to teach dance to adults, adolescents, and elementary kids. I had no idea that I would end up performing at a dance festival in Lyon, France, let alone Lampang, Thailand.

All these years later, I’m thrilled to also bring my B.Ed. pedagogical training, my training in exercise for osteoporosis, and my neuroscience of movement training to these classes.

Let’s get dancing!

xoxo
