The last Beer & Bros was hilarious. You guys made me laugh—-so much so, that I forgot to put out your snacks. Back then, the theme was “Yoga for Injury Management.” But this time, the focus is, “Yoga for Core.”
Oh, you’ll love it. We meet at Bicycle Craft Brewery on Industrial. Enjoy the 7pm yoga class that’s safe enough for your rugged aches & pains, but geared towards building up your whole core. This includes intelligent cueing and movements (from the ground up) for your obliques, glute meds, adductors, abductors, transverse abdominis, multifidis, and more. You need full wraparound support to stablize knees, hips, low back, and neck.
We’ll use yoga props, which help tight bodies to participate comfortably. We’ll enjoy targeted stretching (you don’t have to be flexible). Let’s have some chuckles and comraderie. After class, the first beer is on me! (non-alcholic option available, too). On a sliding scale, choose to register just yourself, or grab a buddy for the “Buddy Discount.”
Bros belong here:
Whether you’re a desk jockey, photographer, finance bro, geek chic, beanie-wearing hipster, hockey player, gastronomer, new-to-the-neighbourhood dad, self-identifying male, young or old, you belong with the Alta Vista Bros.
You want a therapeutic stretch, but you aren’t “bendy.” You know that you need to safely tone your “dad core,” and maybe you need some de-stressing techniques, but you don’t want to do any “weird” stuff. You’re ready to chill and chuckle at a social event with other bros in the neighbourhood, but you want something other than poker night. Maybe you already like yoga, but you just never find the time.
This class will be refreshing, feel-good, accessible for tight bodies, and all-levels, which means that I’ll cue the movements in a way that even brand new beginners can follow comfortably, but I’ll also give a couple of different options in each pose, so that more experienced yogis can opt to deepen the practise.
What Happens?
This.
Zoe arrives to unload yoga props and set up.
You arrive at the brewery between 6:45-7:00 pm. We have some laughs as we line up our mats (if needed, you can borrow mats & props from me).
7:00 pm, we do the yoga class: Yoga for Bros. While we do yoga, we incorporate specific tips & tricks for building your core right into our practise. We end the class with a really de-stressing, relaxing stretch to increase flexibilty, release tension, and expand our lung capacity. (Sometimes I give a little mini massage at the end. For real).
After the yoga class, the first beer is on me! If you can’t stay for beer on tap, then take a can home. (non-alcoholic drink is available too).
After beers, we leave (walk home, uber, carpool, or head out to have burgers together).

Know more than each other’s parkas:
Haaaaaa. The best part about this feel-good, pop-up evening for self-identifying dudes, is that you’ll get to know the other dad neighbours. Have some laughs, increase your lung capacity, strengthen/stretch muscles, and get a stronger core. Hint: your core is sooo much more than abs.
Yoga mats & props:
If you have props (mat, blocks, strap, theraband, blanket), then bring them. Otherwise, I have extra mats & props for you to borrow—-just let me know when you register. Yoga props (blocks, foamies, blankets, straps, etc) are tools to help yoga suit your body, instead of forcing your body to fit yoga. For example, we sit on top of foamies to ease tension in your hips/back, and we place our hands on blocks to relieve tight hamstrings, and we use a strap in some poses to protect our shoulders. Most students like a blanket for savasana (the final relaxation pose) to get warm and cozy. I’ve got you covered!
Invest in your Dad Bod:
While most forms of fitness focus on strengthening the parts of your body that are visible from the outside (your muscles), this extensive and intelligent system of yoga is different because it focuses on pairing your breath with particular movements in order to massage and tone your most vital, essential systems that actually keep you alive (circulatory, lymphatic, immune, endocrine, nervous, respiratory, digestive, reproductive, excretal, muscular, skeletal, mental).
That's why we feel so refreshed, calm, and whole after yoga. Both the movements and the meditation techniques produce a steadying effect on our mental health. Plus, as a bonus side-effect, we also benefit from the whole-body workout, too!
I so look forward to sharing vibrant, safe, informative yoga classes with you to ease your tension, move your digestion along, flush out your lymphatic system, and strengthen your whole core. You’re in the right place!
About this Beer & Bros class:
Above all else, I want your experience to be welcoming, safe, beneficial, and educational. All bros belong here. I provide options so that each body in the room can participate with comfort. So bring your furrowed brow, bring your tight hamstrings, bring your man tire. You belong with us!
Class components:
An educational element (related to injury management)
A safe warm-up for your connective tissues.
A sequence of asanas (yoga postures) to strengthen and stretch your whole body—both inside and out. This is the largest component of the class.
A meditation/breathing technique.
Savasana (our final resting pose). This is when your body absorbs all the healing benefits of your practise and integrates what you've learned (neuroplasticity). You lie down on your mat for a few minutes with a blanket, close your eyes, and completely & utterly relax. It’s the best. I come around with an optional mini massage. Sometimes you’ll fall asleep :)
